Oamaru

The penguins shown here are Yellow Eyed Penguins. To see the Bllue Penguins, the smallest penguin species, we sat in bleachers watching for them to come ashore at dusk. No pictures were allowed. The last few pictures here are their homes (pictures taken before nightfall). The penguins go out to sea during the day to feed and only come back at night. They come ashore by the dozens, socialize a bit and then go off to their holes where their mate and offspring are.
